Seal Beach Swim - August 8, 2013

Time marches on. One of the marvelous things about doing something at the same time and same place all year round is the recognition of change.

I think it has been over a year now that the Tridiots have been meeting at Seal Beach pier for a 6:00 am swim, pretty much on a weekly basis. From one week to another the change might be as simple as a change in weather or water conditions. Occasionally the water is calm and glassy and there is not a cloud in the sky. One time, earlier this year, it was so choppy I got motion sickness and felt like I was going to throw up.

Over longer periods of time, one notices a grander scale of change like the changes of seasons. This seems particularly noticeable when one repeats an activity at the beginning or end of a day, when the incremental changes in sunrise and sunset slowly, but inevitably shift.

This morning we started our swim before the sun was up. It may not be the first time this summer, but it was the first time that I noticed. Luckily we are still swimming without wetsuits.
